Day One Hundred Ninety Five ~ If You Build It They Will Come

… or maybe just for a while and then not… or maybe eventually?  The Phoenix Trotting Park, built in 1964 survived for several years, but closed after facing the challenges of its distance from Phoenix and the desert climate.  That was in the 60’s.  It has stood vacant all these years, with the exception of a Hollywood moment in the late 90’s when it was used for an explosion set in the movie No Code Of Conduct.  Much has changed since the 60’s.  Perhaps this extravagant venture was ahead of its time and its time in the sun is still to come?

Day One Hundred Ninety Four ~ Summer Dust Storm

Perhaps the last one, a week or so ago… moving in… cough. :)

Day One Hundred Ninety Three ~ Weekend Fun

Hi there… it’s Sawyer … I want to tell you about my fun weekend.  I went to Starbuck’s with M and made friends with a bunch of firemen.  I want to be their station dog and go for rides on their big truck!  Then I went to fly ball class … whoa, that was some kind of fun!  Check out the heart on my shoulder… I wear it all the time.  :)  Bye for now…

Day One Hundred Eighty Nine ~ After the Dust Storm

Day One Hundred Eighty Eight ~ A Lesson Learned

I should listen to the big M more often.  I chose to continue chasing the bees even though big M told me not to.  Now I have a boo boo on my nose because one of the bees stung me.  Big M put something (baking soda water) on my sore nose and I tried to eat it.  It was yummy! (btw, I will eat anything).

Day One Hundred Eighty Seven ~ Paradise At Home

Labor Day weekend…. Staying home and pretending we’re on a veranda on a tropical beach.  Happy :)

Day One Hundred Eighty Six ~ Blue Moon Tonite

… see you again in 2015.

Day One Hundred EightyFive ~ Summer Sunrise

Morning Sunrise

Mornings in the city in the desert… sitting on the lounge in the backyard, 5:30ish, watching the sun break through, while the tyke (puppy aka Sawyer) wanders the yard performing his elaborate ritual of sniffing and circling, precursory to his two P’s (potty & poop).

Day One Hundred Eighty Four ~ Summer Sunset

Desert Sunset

Day One Hundred Eighty Three ~ Dog Tired

Dog Nap

Mommy made me walk in the heat for 3 miles today… okay, I admit, she carried me home the last mile.

Day One Hundred Eighty Two ~ Horse In The City

Sawyer and I love this beautiful horse… we stop to say hello on our morning walks.

Day One Hundred Eighty One ~ Gold Reflection

A walk along the historic Gold Spot building, built in 1925.

Day One Hundred Eighty ~ Itsy Bitsy Spider

Experimenting with my new macro filter tube extension which I purchased after being inspired by this post, by Brooke Anderson Photography.  For $11 it is quite rewarding.  Now this attempt was hand held, so a bit blury… but I think there’s a lot of potential with my new purchase!

I was applying sealer to my new patio furniture when I saw this cute little guy and ran for my camera.  Probably no more then 1/4 inch in size.  I have no idea what kind of spider it is… but couldn’t you almost pet it?  Ok, maybe not.

Day One Hundred Seventy Nine ~ The Little King

Look who’s plopped on top of my laptop with his toy… see why I can’t keep up with my daily posts?!  How can I resist that little face? :)

Day One Hundred Seventy Eight ~ Where the Wind Blows

Palm Springs windmills

Wind turbine generators…

I am always fascinated with the miles of wind turbine generators outside Palm Springs… never get tired of seeing them.  Finally took a little time to stop and catch some shots but skies were overcast, etc so wasn’t able to get the captures I hoped for… but its a start.  Next time… :)

Day One Hundred Seventy Seven ~ Larger than Life

Forever Marilyn…

Standing nearly 3 stories high at 26 feet, the Marilyn statue in downtown Palm Springs is a sight to behold.  It/she is drawing quite a bit of attention and it was nearly impossible to get a picture without people posing in some fashion around the base.  The statue is striking in its location on a large grassy open space on a busy corner on Palm Canyon drive, with the mountain range soaring behind.  Here are a few interesting links providing more background on the Forever Marilyn statue, currently residing in Palm Springs.  It was so hot and humid, you can see that it appears even Marilyn (statue) is perspiring.

Day One Hundred Seventy Six ~ Road-trips

On the way to Palm Springs…

Another thing I love about my town is the diversity of destinations that can be reached in 5 hours (or less) via road-trip.
